Words of Wisdom Rarely Spoken
: This morning in church, our pastor’s wife encouraged us to read the first few chapters of Proverbs. As frequently happens, I read it with fresh eyes, and in this world where Hollywood movie stars can admin openly that they are worshipers of Satan without financial consequences; and Trump supporters can be slaughtered with machine guns and no one dares call for a Congressional investigation; wisdom, discipline and prudence are words one rarely sees in print – much less hears in normal conversation. Therefore, this seems particularly important to pass on to anyone you love. “The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Isreal: For attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young – Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance – for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise! The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” I’m still reporting from the one-time, free-speech capital of the world. Good day.
