Harvey Weinstein Booted from the Academy

ou may have noticed that I have had no interest in even mentioning the name of Harvey Weinstein – much less give him any publicity whatsoever. Why? Because his story of decades of sexual preditor-ness absolutely pales to nothingness compared with 500 Trump supporters being mowed down by machine guns in a pen in Las Vegas. The cops are lying about it. The FBI is lying about it and that’s just it. All the tools of the Ministry of Propaganda for Deep State are pulling out all the stops to try to make the lone nut gunman theory become the dominate theory for all eternity. But it is not going to work. It is no exaggeration to say that tens of millions of Americans know something is wrong and a large percentage of them are not going to let this die. However, being someone who had hopes of being part of the documentary wing of the Burbank/Hollywood scene, I know the significance of what happened today which eclipses any previous development in the movie mogul sex predator case. Harvey Weinstein was booted out of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences by an emergency meeting of their 54-member Board of Governors. The vote was well in excess of the required 2/3rds majority required to immediately expel him from the academy. The board released a statement today. “We do so not simply to separate ourselves from someone who does not merit the respect of his colleagues but also to send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over.” Weinstein, aged 65, was fired by the production company by the same name; his wife of 10 years, Georgia Chapman, announced that she is leaving him. And numerous police agencies are looking into charging him criminally, and the likelihood is that he will be indicted, tried, convicted and serve time somewhere for something. Unless he has an in with the FBI. In which case, a really substantial donation to the Clinton Foundation may just make all this unpleasentness go away. And whether or not that is true or false, by itself, it is a sad commentary on the current state of our nation.
